Discovery of Chennai, the old colonial city of “Madras”

Chennai

Kapaleeshwarar Temple - San Thome Cathedral - Ramakrishna Mutt Temple - Fort St. George - The Shore Temple

Chennai is known for its rich cultural heritage, historic temples, and classical music and dance traditions. The city is also famous for Marina Beach, one of the longest urban beaches in the world.

Drive through the historic Mylapore area and visit the 17th century Kapaleeshwarar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Visit the neo-Gothic style San Thome Cathedral, original built by the Portuguese in honor of St Thomas the Apostle, and then the serene Ramakrishna Mutt Temple.
Move on to the museum at Fort St. George where the British first established their foothold in India and visit St. Mary’s church, one of the oldest surviving in India. Right near this is the Madras High Court, built in 1892, with distinctive red Indo-Saracenic architecture, magnificent painted ceilings and stained-glass doors.
The Shore Temple, on the banks of the Bay of Bengal, is one of the main attractions of Mahabalipuram.

The vivacious and mythical city of Madurai

Madurai

Vivacious, mythical, chaotic and soulful, that's what best describe the city of Madurai which is steeped in Tamil culture. Often referred to as the city that never sleeps by locals-Madurai is worth visiting. Be prepared to be greeted by bright colours and tingle of temple bells taking over your visual and aural senses as you step into the city.


In the evening, visit the Meenakshi Temple for the sunset prayers and spend time witnessing the ceremonies. The temple attracts thousands of pilgrims each day and was built 1623-55AD.

Thekkady

Gavi, located in Kerala one-hour away from Thekkady, is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, nestled within the Periyar Tiger Reserve. It's a haven for ecotourism, offering lush greenery, serene lakes, and abundant wildlife. Gavi is also famous for its trekking opportunities, picturesque viewpoints, and tranquil environment, making it a perfect retreat for nature lovers.

Gavi is the major off-the-track destination ideal for a wilderness retreat replete with trekking, birding and canoeing. This biological garden, with hills and valleys, tropical forests, sprawling grass lands, sholas, cascading waterfalls and cardamom plantation, is home for many endangered species.

The Colonial Old Town of Kochi

Kochi

Kochi, coastal city in Kerala, is renowned for its historic colonial architecture, vibrant spice markets, and picturesque Chinese fishing nets.

Visit the Church of St. Francis, the First European Church in India where Vasco de Gama was buried in 1524. The furniture and antique market near the Jewish part is very interesting and worth spending some time browsing. Visit the Jewish Synagogue that was built in 1568 and has exquisite Chinese tiles, Belgian chandeliers and ancient scrolls of the Old Testament.
Visit the Mattancherry Palace locally known as the Dutch Palace and built by the Portuguese in 1555. The murals here are beautiful and depict Hindu Mythology in typical temple style.
End the tour with the Hill Palace Museum which was the official residence of the erstwhile rulers of Kochi. Built in 1865, it is now famous for being a full-fledged ethno-archaeological museum and Kerala´s first ever heritage museum.

The Unesco World Heritage site of Hampi

Hampi

Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its stunning ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire, showcasing grand temples and intricate stone carvings. The surreal landscape of boulder-strewn hills and the Tungabhadra River add to its historical and natural allure.

In the evening drive to the Tungabhadra River, walk through monoliths and temples carved out of the stones that have been magically placed over each other and enjoy a coracle boat ride on the river discovering hidden temples on either side of the river bank.

Hampi

Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple is known to be the birth place of hanuman and it is described exactly in the Ramayana.
