The PuLi Hotel and Spa in Shanghai is a stunning example of contemporary luxury blended with traditional Chinese elements. The hotel was designed by Kume Sekkei from Japan and Layan Design Group from Australia. The aim was to create an urban resort that offers peace and tranquility amidst the bustling city. The hotel uses dark timbers, cast bronze, air-dried clay tiles, grey Shanghai brick, and handmade stone. These materials are prominently featured in the public areas and guestrooms, creating a strong connection to local craftsmanship. The interiors feature a mix of modern and traditional elements. Carved timber screens, textured brick walls, and sand-colored textiles are used to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
