The building was originally opened as a State Guesthouse in 1953. It has hosted numerous dignitaries and important events over the decades. In 2014, the property was renovated and rebranded as the Sofitel Legend People’s Grand Hotel Xi’an, combining its rich history with modern luxury. The hotel is situated on the grounds of the former Imperial Palace, adding to its historical and cultural significance.
