Opened in 1866, this historic hotel combines timeless elegance and tradition with the highest standards of service. Situated on the banks of the Salzach River, the hotel offers magnificent views of the historic old town and Hohensalzburg Fortress.
The hotel was built between 1863 and 1866 by Carl Freiherr von Schwarz, originally named the “Österreichischer Hof” (Austrian Court). From its opening in 1866, the hotel quickly became popular among nobility, clergy, and artists. With the beginning of the Salzburg Festival, the hotel became a social hub, hosting notable figures like Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, and Richard Strauss. In 1988, the Gürtler family purchased the hotel. They undertook extensive renovations to restore its historical style and equipped it with rare art treasures. In 2000, the hotel was renamed “Hotel Sacher Salzburg” to align with the prestigious Sacher brand.
