Description
When Gleneagles first opened its doors in 1924, it was hailed as a “Riviera in the Highlands.” The visionary behind it was Donald Matheson, inspired by the local Strathearn countryside. Gleneagles Ltd was formed in 1913 to construct and operate the hotel and golf courses. The King’s and Queen’s golf courses, designed by James Braid, opened in 1919. Gleneagles hosted the first international match between American and British professional golfers, a precursor to The Ryder Cup, in 1921. The hotel officially opened on June 7, 1924, with a grand Gala Ball broadcast on BBC Radio.
Gleneagles boasts 232 rooms, each offering luxurious comfort.
The hotel features three championship golf courses, making it a golfer’s paradise. The ESPA spa provides rejuvenating treatments, and the Health Club offers fitness facilities.
Gleneagles offers eight unique restaurants and bars, catering to diverse tastes. Whether you crave fine dining, afternoon tea, or a cozy drink, there’s something for everyone.
In recent years, Gleneagles has undergone a six-year renovation, marking an exciting new chapter. It remains an iconic Scottish hotel, blending tradition with modern luxury.
